Aramaic Bible Translation's

First Annual Week of Thanksgiving

On October 23, 2007, the Aramaic Bible Translation board voted unanimously to approve a proposal which states: The week beginning November 18 will be set aside to give thanksgiving to our great God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit who has accomplished so much in our behalf. Members have prayed and tried to cooperate with God in bringing understandable Scripture translations to speakers of Aramaic dialects worldwide. We are thankful that God has provided the ability, energy and necessary funding for everything in the following partial list of ABT accomplishments:

Assyrian-Aramaic

  1. The Assyrian New Testament has been completed.
  2. One third of the Assyrian Old Testament has been drafted.
  3. The Jesus Film video was dubbed into Assyrian and distributed.
  4. A Portrait of Jesus - an audio recording of selections from the four Gospels
  5. An audio recording of the Gospel of Mark.
  6. Recorded Gospels of John and Matthew started.

Chaldean-Aramaic

  1. The New Testament published in Arabic script; nearly ready for publication in Syriac script.
  2. A third of the Old Testament is drafted.
  3. Popular Bible Videos produced have been dubbed into Chaldean including the stories of Abraham, Isaac and Joseph taken directly from Genesis and the book of Acts.
  4. The Jesus Film taken from the Gospel of Luke has been dubbed in Chaldean.
  5. Easter Promise and Breakout children’s videos produced by Focus on the Family were dubbed in Chaldean. 1000 of these were distributed in Iraq.
  6. Hundreds of programs teaching the scriptures in Chaldean have been produced for radio and TV.

Suryoyo-Aramaic

  1. The Suryoyo New Testament has been translated. Proofing and revision are nearly complete.
  2. A booklet in Suryoyo including six chapters of Mark has been done in Arabic, Syriac and Roman script.
  3. The Jesus Film has been dubbed into Suryoyo and is being distributed with a printed script to encourage literacy.
  4. Many Suryoyo church leaders have expressed their desire for Bible translation in Suryoyo.

Ma’luli-Aramaic

Four Gospels and the Pauline epistles through Galatians have been drafted and partially checked.

Mardini

  1. The New Testament is translated and nearly ready for publication. 
  2. The Jesus Film has been translated, produced and distributed to thousands of Mardini Speakers.

Mandaic-Aramaic

Contacts have been made with some of the Mandaic religious leaders who have shown interest in Bible translation.

Linguistic Analysis

Without linguistic analysis and development, none of these languages could be written.  Our well-qualified linguists have produced appropriate orthographies for these languages.  Grammars have been written and will be printed and used in mother-tongue education as needed.

Media copying and distribution center

Trained personnel are now producing copies of our materials and distributing them.

Aramaic Bible Translation's

First Annual Week of Thanksgiving

Please pray for the following ABT needs:

  1. Speedy completion and publication of the Mardini and Suryoyo New Testaments.
  2. Health and wisdom for our translation teams and support personnel.
  3. Aramaic people in the Middle East and elsewhere who are suffering persecution and displacement would find safe haven and healing in body, soul and spirit through Jesus Christ.
  4. Good relationships with the Aramaic-speaking church leaders.
  5. Successful fundraising efforts, so that our staff can be given a living wage and health insurance.
  6. A specific new fundraising opportunity will be fruitful.
  7. New translators and exegetical consultants will join us to hasten the completion of the work.

  8. ABT’s directors and advisors will lead with God-given understanding, compassion and ability so that the projects are productive.
  9. Our avenues of Scripture and media distribution would increase and more people would benefit from our translations.
  10. More Aramaic speakers would have a desire to hear and read the Word of God in their own language.
  11. Young Aramaic men and women would seek training in their Aramaic language and that they will grow in the knowledge of Christ through his Word.
  12. Institutions would be established in every Aramaic-speaking community for teaching the Word of God with depth and humility.
  13. Aramaic-speaking communities could resolve to work together in spite of their differences and find unity in Christ, the Prince of Peace.
  14. Aramaic speakers living in prosperity would use their wealth to promote the Kingdom of God and care for those in need.
  15. The Aramaic churches would fully realize the riches found in understanding God’s Word in their present-day spoken languages.
