ABT Prayer
January 14, 2009
Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. Jas 5:13
We are thankful for continued progress on the translation of the Old Testament. Salim (translator) has been translating Deuteronomy. Khairy (new reviewer) has begun reviewing Ezra.
The New Testament is in its layout stage and the layout is going well. Contacts with the Patriarch have been made, with the result that the Patriarch has promised to endorse our New Testament for use in the Syriac Orthodox Church. Dr. Abdul-Massih is now doing further checking of the NT translation and the Suryoyo orthography. Discussions continue with a Bible Society in Turkey to prepare this NT for printing. The translation of the Old Testament in Suryoyo will be the next planned venture.
This New Testament is also in its layout stage and the layout is going well. Dr. Abdul-Massih Saadi and Saad Saadi continue to make contact with local bishops of Mar Gabriel (Suryoyo) and Mardin (Mardini) to further the use of this New Testament. This New Testament is being planned to be published with the Standard Arabic translation of the New Testament, each facing the other. The Patriarch has also endorsed this New Testament version for use. The recording of the Jesus Film and of the Portrait of Jesus is well underway.
There are only about three books of the New Testament which have not been translated. We expect that in about three months this translation into the Ma'luli language will go into its final checking stage. It, too, will then go into the layout stage.
The first draft of 1 Samuel is completed. In addition they both have been working diligently on translating the Psalms into Assyrian. The translators are deeply moved when they read the completed Psalms back to themselves, "They are so beautiful and powerful in our own language."
